You can pre-order the calendar here! If you want one for sure, please order by the 26th of November, because that’s when I’ll be sending them off to the printer! The theme this year is Horses of The Silver Eye (and their riders). There are 6 equine artworks and 6 human portraits. I got the humans out of the way because I knew I could tackle that faster, and now my task will be to polish the horse art.

Apen – I wanted to show him in his happy place. Apen is a devout Catholic and while the Catholic church is a big thing in Levant, it doesn’t have a presence west of the Deadlands. So not only was Apen severed from his country, he was cut off from fellow believers in his denomination. I can picture him stepping back into a cathedral in Levant and being overwhelmed with a sense of Home.

Nathan – Alternatively, Apen has just locked Nathan out of a cathedral so that he can finally have some peace, and Nathan is outside stewing about it. That is the headcanon that came to me as I was finishing the art. This one took the longest to finish.

Enel – For most of these, I wanted to show the characters a bit older, having been through some character development. I think that shows up most in both of Enel’s artworks. Here he is fully embracing his Nedarian-ness.

Berlyne – Also a bit older and more refined (Queen of Cedulan material??). Sometimes for paintings I’ll throw different photos I’ve taken into the background to see what looks best. I was playing around with that and found the latest version of Gimp has an amazing Lens Blur tool. Normally I find a background I like and then paint it in because photo backgrounds always clash with the art, but I actually liked the way this looked as it is so I kept it.

Ruya – A throwback to this portrait.

Velvare – A throwback to this portrait. Winter is not his favorite season, but his coloring is made for it.

Reminder that you can join The Silver Eye Secret Santa until the 26th!
